YOGA STUDIO IN DUBAI
THE COMMUNAL LIVINGROOM
Nook Yoga is envisioned as a warm, grounded sanctuary within the city—where movement, rest, and human connection naturally intertwine. The project redefines the yoga studio as a home-like communal space, encouraging people to slow down, gather, and feel a sense of belonging.
ENTRY.
Upon entering, visitors are welcomed by a mirror with a custom-made shoe cabinet, designed to make the most efficient use of the available space. Next to it is the entrance to the yoga room, an information cork board, and a white writing surface hidden behind a noren curtain.
Opposite it, a custom-made storage element functions as an independent furniture piece while also connecting the different areas of the space. It displays books that are part of the overall community concept and seamlessly continues into the kitchen, where it becomes a shelving system for tea.
The noren curtain is intentionally positioned along the circulation route leading into the communal area. Its height gently encourages visitors to lower their heads as they pass through, creating a subconscious moment of slowing down and showing respect for the space they are entering. In this way, movement itself becomes part of the interior concept.
The client wanted to avoid a conventional reception desk. Instead, the reception is subtly integrated into this area, allowing the receptionist to remain a natural part of the community.
COMMUNAL SPACE.
Inspired by floor living traditions and shoes-off rituals, the interior promotes closeness to the ground through cushions. Sitting and practicing at floor level becomes a shared experience that fosters openness, comfort, and presence. The space supports both quiet introspection and informal social interaction, blurring the boundary between practice and pause.
Warm materials, tactile textures, and gentle lighting create a welcoming, cozy atmosphere that contrasts with Dubai’s fast-paced urban environment. More than a place for yoga, the studio becomes a communal living room - an intimate retreat where people connect,recharge, and return not out of habit, but desire.
